MAPPING II - New images


My initial mapping started with the image of the eye as the trigger point that occurs prior to researching. The very first moment the conscious mind transfers information to the subconscious. This first image is a composition of elements that visually narrate the process of ingestion of a thought or a need for a product. In this case the filmstrip is representative of a time frame that occurs at this particular moment. Furthermore, the filmstrip is placed at the center of the eye as a metaphor to a viewfinder or a movie reel.


Images of the television, highway billboard and shopping center represent three of the most common types of visual and physical media we experience everyday, whether we are on foot, an automobile or in the commodity of our homes. Both the television and the billboard are shown faded to indicate that these elements of media have been looked at, however dismissed for lacking physical interaction. The media element that triggered the desired or need for an electronic object was the shopping center shown in the filmstrip. The images of the television and the highway billboard (soccer player) are graphical representations that in this case the electronic device is desired to be used for entertainment. The retina separating from the eye is symbolic of a sphere spinning away to reach a new stage.




The Researching image is the stage in our human minds where the subconscious takes over and processes all information received from the eye. The black background is indicative of what we experience when we try to image things or scenarios. The blue veiny sphere represents the point in our brains that processes rationale and ultimately allowing only the "one" need or treat we desire to have. This image includes words, needs, expressions, and all possible thoughts that invade our mind. Sometimes in an obsessive manner, therefore the words take different shape, length, motion, etc. In this case the individual (I) chose an MP3 player as the product to be acquired. Upon decision of the primary function, the sphere spits through is chopped end a smaller sphere to separate the consumer from the producer creating a revolution or a centrifugal force.



This image indicates "selection" where the intent is for the mapping experience to evolve from the consumer to the product. At 2:59 a.m. all previous thoughts or voices are funneled to a stage closer to consciousness. A stage of the individual where all thoughts fuse together and select the "one". The I-POD is the selected product.

The graphics show the time clock at 2:59 a.m at the right hand top of the strip to correlate with the ending placement of the "research" image. The repetitive image of the back of the I-POD is to resemble an i-pod farm, the perfect matrix where all products are being harvested and only "the one" will become alive. Notice how the shell of the product is not yet define and only certain parts are starting to boot. The display box confirms reanimation is up to 33 seconds to create enough momentum to take the centrifugal roads. The product as it takes the last road of this stage selects color as it overcomes 1:00 minute of booting.


The next image getting closer to completion is a composition of "Final selection, purchasing and receiving". At this moment regionalism is introduced into the stage as it nears final delivery of the product to the consumer.

As previously mentioned, this image is visual representation of what the product is experiencing to get to the consumer. The upper corner of the graphic illustrates the back of the I-POD to confirm that the consumer is still making final selection of all hardware and software to be inclusive of the desired object. In this case 60GB is used to described the intent. Upon completion of selection a new image arises representing "purchasing", in this case the image of the individual represents the personalization of the transaction. The individual back of the head is shown to indicate security of the transaction as well as to remain anonymous. Notice there are certain spheres that are left without an image. This is to indicate that there are lapses where the consumer looses track of the product. For example, at purchasing where the sales associate is invoicing or the web cart is verifying the transaction.

Final stages of the mapping experience are near as it reaches the state of "receiving". This is represented with images of a truck and a plane representing options of delivery. The spheres are closer together gaining more momentum as they reach the final stages. The red sphere is a metaphor to the consumer "hot" and ready chasing or tracking the selected method of delivery to see where the object is.

The Centrifugal rings are my representation of regionalism. Florida globally located in the path of many and often Hurricane storms that obtain force from the warm waters of the ocean.

Will these different maps be combined into one or are you going to be providing stages? I look forward to seeing the transfer from the consumer to the producer and so forth.

I read your first image better on this post. Perhaps you might think about putting some graphics in the second image in place of all the words. Do a mix of words and graphics. I know when I am thinking I see both. Some times an image just pops out at me instead of words. Just a thought for your next step.

The maps will not be combined into one, I will be providing different stages. You bring up an excellent point on including graphics! I did not think about that one. That could be another dimension, perhaps how the words come alive. I'll have to think about that one. Great thought! thanks.
