Sorry, I missed the beginning of this critique so this will be somewhat incomplete
Move the genius bar to the front for...
Theatrical in nature - “harvesting” the products for customers after purchase - visible to the street - employees are the actors
Communication can open/close be accessible/inaccessible The corner can open up/close down
The “Fin” to draw people in. Ted wondered if this could somehow extend the mezzanine into the street and asked how the feature could activate this section and how the surface that extends into the building better focus on seeing and being seen
Ted asked that you justify your structural ideas - not sure about the glass elevator (but applaudes the gesture) - asked to look at the new ICA
Pin-Up 21-August-2007
SEE - CELEBRATE - TOUCH - EXPERIENCE
Churches, Hancock, and Library do not interact with the square Can we enhance or celebrate the square through the architecture
SEE - many perspective from which to see - by car primarily limited to two - on foot from all directions.
CELEBRATE -
Church is aCelebration of Religion Library is a Celebration of Knowledge Hancock is a Celebration of Commerce Square is a Celebration in various ways
TOUCH - is very Apple
Theatrical in nature - main shopping are is elevated - creates a stage - the building is alive - all functions are revealed - about seeing and being seen - using glass to frame the landscape
Keeping the building low so that more of the square is revealed
“Harvesting” a farm of products - boxes are arranged artistically and visible - workers delivering them are actors
“Fin” - create false perspective and frames the view of the church vestibule - and draws people into the building.
Ted: Seeing and being seen is topical with U-Tube, etc. May need to define the line - where do you stop being seen?
Has problem with “pods” being historical - may need to view of Tokyo Apple Store??
The corner column turns the corner holds up the building provides vertical circulation but does not ask questions can it make a statement which is less certain?
Look at the Wall House by John Hejduk
In summary: The floating plane works the layer works mezzanine works column does not tailor the views more?
Think about the glass which be omitted if in a different climate and how to make that work in this climate
